Partner, Brand & Experience

Rachel Dala

I care about how things look, sound and feel, and what all of it communicates before anyone says a word.

Rachel Dala, partner, brand and experience at CRE8R.
What I do here

I help shape how CRE8R and our clients show up in the world.

From photography, film and websites to typography, color, music and the overall vibe, I'm usually thinking about how all the pieces work together, and whether we're presenting the work in the best possible light.

Basically, I make sure the details feel intentional.

What shaped me

Music + Movement

I grew up in a house filled with music and have been dancing most of my life, from cheerleading and Filipino folk dance to teaching dance fitness today.

Music taught me how something can move you without explaining itself. Dance taught me expression, performance and the power of pairing movement with the right sound.

Presentation, before I knew the word

Growing up, I watched my family appreciate beautiful things and take care of them: sneakers, clothing, beauty products, their home, even the way they got dressed.

My dad expressed his creativity through music, drawing and food. Everything had care behind it.

I didn't know the word presentation yet. I just knew I could feel the difference.

Spaces

As a kid, I loved walking through model homes and claiming which room would be mine, even though buying one wasn't remotely in the cards.

That fascination eventually led me to study interior design at San José State University, along with a minor in business marketing.

Interior design taught me that nothing exists by itself. Scale, material, color, composition and presentation all work together to create an experience.

Brands

Later, working for Nordstrom, RH, real estate staging, the model home industry and Equinox gave me another perspective.

The brands I admired didn't simply sell better products. They thought about the entire experience: the space, materials, service, graphics, details and feeling surrounding the product.

That's when I really understood:

The brand is the experience.

How that shows up in my work

I notice the details.

Alignment. Scale. Color. Materials. Photo grading. Typography. Music. Cleanliness. The things that can be hard to explain but immediately change how something feels.

Once you train your eye, and your ear, it's hard to unsee them.

I think about the whole experience.

I don't look at a logo, website, photograph or video as separate things.

I'm always asking: Does all of this feel like the same brand?

Looking good isn't enough.

Design should absolutely be beautiful.

But it should also do something: help a space function better, clarify an idea, build trust, create interest, strengthen perception or help move a business forward.

It shouldn't just look good. It should feel good and do good.

What I believe
Great work should move you.

It should make you feel something.

It should make you appreciate the beauty in a space, a service, an experience or someone's work, and help people see its value in a way they might not have before.

Design is ultimately another way of expressing who you are.

The best version doesn't make you look like everyone else.

It makes you look more like yourself.

One of my biggest design pet peeves

Trend ≠ strategy.

Painting everything white with black trim doesn't automatically make it modern. Using the typeface everyone else is using doesn't automatically make something well designed.

I love what's current. I just don't believe in following a trend simply because it's a trend.

If it doesn't make sense for the space, business or brand, don't do it.

A few things about me
Usually listening to
Oldies and disco, mostly because of my senior dance fitness classes, but I also love Afrobeat, dancehall, reggaeton, old-school R&B, and hip-hop. Tyla and AI House are always in the mix. Basically, anything that makes you want to dance.

Clubhouse Drive

Clubhouse Drive

We started with framing, sheathing and a pile of dirt.

Using the builder's actual specifications, Mike and I pushed ourselves to create conceptual imagery that helped people see what the finished project could become, including a better way to present the design selections than a traditional specification sheet.

It stretched us creatively and gave us an entirely new set of tools.

The CRE8R Website

This one became my baby.

Mike created the foundation, and I obsessed over how every page flowed: what we said, what we didn't need to say, the imagery, the case studies and whether the site actually helped someone understand what CRE8R does.

For me, it's also an experiment in something I'm increasingly fascinated by:

How do you design an experience when the space is digital?

What I'd want you to know

I genuinely care about how people and businesses present themselves.

It's not something I turn on when I'm working on a client project. I've cared about these things for as long as I can remember.

CRE8R just gives me a way to use that perspective to help other people show their work, their businesses and themselves in the best, and most authentic, light possible.
